As the year 2017 is coming to the end, many shrines and temples all over Japan are preparing for Hastumode, the first visit of the year to shrines or temples during New Year Holiday.  By visiting shrines or temples for Hatsumode, people pray for long life and happiness for the year.

Kadomatsu decoration can be seen everywhere in Japan during this period.  It is a decorative ornament for New Year Holiday consisting of pine branches, bamboo and some other flowers.  It symbolizes longevity and prosperity.
