Pilgrimage Route (Choishi-michi) leading to Koyasan

We,  WAK-Guide members, walked Choishi-michi, Pilgrimage Route leading to Koyasan.  It starts at Konpon Daito in Koyasan’s Garan Precinct and ends Jison-in Temple in Kudoyama. There are 180 milestones between them covering about 20 km.  180 milestones are representing the womb realm, whick is the one of the non-duality of the two mandalas based on Kukai’s teachings. Each milestone represents one of the buddhas in the womb realm and stands every 109m. Why 109m? 109m is one-cho according to the Japanese ancient measurement. That’s why this pilgrimage route is called Choishi-michi.

We started at Jison-in Temple, at 180th milestone. As we passed the milestone one by one, we somehow felt that we were getting purified. We felt each milestone encourages us to go forward to Koyasan.  It took us about 6 and a half hours.
